We weren't even supposed to be here today but somehow thats where we wound up. A spur of the moment roadtrip led us 120 miles away to an iconic grocery store. Took all the famous pics while trying to be respectful as possible because it is an operating business. Store owner is very used to visitors and says they come from all over the world. Be sure to support the business and buy something and don't forget to visit Kevin smiths own movie theater, Smodcastle cinimas. It's right up the road. awesome experience in a quaint little theater house.

When I drove to the Quick Stop, I was shocked how small this place actually was. Kevin Smith got a lot out of this small place. Admittedly, I didn't really buy anything, and most of the Clerks branding has been removed, but I still felt right at home here in this store. The staff kind of rolled their eyes at me just uttering "I'm a fan of the movie.", but I think it is to be expected at this point. The only thing I didn't really like is that the parking in front of the store is a little tight, and in need of a new coat of paint. The storefront next door to the Quick Stop (the VHS / Nintendo rental store from Clerks) is gone now, and there isn't much else there to this place. It is a convenience store. All of the usual convenience store items are here and ready to be bought. The retro aesthetic is a part of the charm.

Duh.... if you know, you know. This simple neighborhood convenience store has become a destination of indie film fans world wide. I'm sure the staff gets annoyed by the "customers" fanboying out, taking endless pictures and asking the "clerk" if he is indeed supposed to be there today?, but I've never seen anyone let it show. If you're in the area make sure you stop in and then check all the other View Askew related points of interest!

LEONARDO: NJ legend Kevin Smith got his start and inspiration for the movie Clerks working at Quick Stop Groceries and it is a real place right off of Route 36! We stopped by to see the "world's most famous convenience store" and had a major fan moment. Dogs are not allowed inside, but it was fun to be like Jay and Silent Bob just hanging out in front. If you pop inside, it will satisfy all your convenience needs. SModCastle is right next door where there are events and film festivals.

If you're a fan of of Kevin Smith's movies, then you have to check out the location that started them all! The Quick Stop is a typical convenience store, you've been to one, you've been to them all. Limited parking, limited selection inside. Good for a quick stop (literally!) The employees are nice and will let you take pictures inside and out, so take out your cameras, get the black and white filters ready and take some pics.

For Kevin Smith fans and all lovers of the movie "Clerks", this Quick Stop is a five star must. It is a working convenience store and a solid four star experience. Seriously, walking through its door is just like walking back in time, because nothing has really changed since the film. Ok, you'll find no hockey on the roof or dead guy in the back (Sorry, Caitlin), but this spot will satisfy the most ardent fan's cinematic nostalgia. So stop in Captain Chronic Cadets and enjoy some cool memories of a timeless classic. I assure you that they are open.

I can really only describe this place as magical. I make sure to stop by each and every time I'm in the area. It's less than 1/10 of a mile out of your way when you're leaving Sandy Hook which is when I'm always there. In case you haven't read the other reviews, this is where the film Clerks was filmed which catapulted Kevin Smith and the Viewaskew universe into stardom. When you drive up you can't help but feel the history as the place remains largely unchanged from when they filmed the original movie in black and white over 20 years ago. For that reason I doubt they'll ever renovate. I'll rephrase, they BETTER never renovate. When you walk in, all the nostalgia that was that phenomenal first movie comes rushing back. You can picture Kevin Smith's mother on her knees picking out milk in front of the dairy fridge or one of Walt Flanagan's many characters slamming eggs on the glass doors. You think of Randall and Dante behind the counter and Veronica shooting the fire extinguisher at the Chewley's gum moron. For me, this is an absolute must visit place. It's on par with any NJ landmark only so much cooler. And in the highly unlikely event that you've never seen Clerks, watch it, go there and I promise you it will be unlike any visit to a convenience store you've ever had. It's almost cathartic.

Yes, I came here specifically because of the movie Clerks. It's been on the "to-do" list for several years now. Take away Clerks/Kevin Smith though, it's actually not a bad store at all. So I made the 1 hour drive from New York just to just take my pic outside the store as so many do (and some inside). There's a faded Clerks 2 poster outside the window and a few pics/plaques inside near the register. Right next door is the former RST Video - but although you can still see VHS tapes and such inside, the sign is no longer in the front. The walls are no longer white, but the pics I took will be in black & white anyway, so no harm no foul. Clerks fans will undoubtedly recognize little areas inside and the overall layout. Obviously I have no idea what this place looked like back in the mid 90's, but it was pretty clean today, neat, and a place that I wish was in my own neighborhood due to it's cheap and 'convenient' items you'd find in most places like this. As many other reviewers on here have already mentioned, you should at least purchase something if you're coming because of the movie. Of course I purchased a snack, a Gatorade, and even shoe polish (yes, I wanted a keepsake I would never use) and it was quite cheap - though that could be the area, since if I bought the same items near me, I'd be paying a lot more. So for both the experience and for the actual store itself (if you're a local resident), it's certainly worth a visit.

You know what, I'm guilty as charged. About 5 years ago, I did the whole "take the pictures outside of the Quick Stop thing" too. Yes, I'm a Kevin Smith junkie, and I can quote Clerks with the best of them. So why am I reviewing it now? Well, why the hell not? I will say that I enjoyed seeing it. It gave me the opportunity to remember something that I really enjoyed for a few minutes of my life. And yes, I bought a Gatorade there. I had to. Just to say that i did. (And if you don't know why I chose Gatorade, you need to go back to the movie and refresh your memory.) I agree with what others have said. If you go there to be a fan dork like me, at least buy something.
